The good old days

We were the second year to go to Edenham. It was a bit strange at first as the school was quite empty - but the place gradually filled up as the years went by.

By "we" I mainly mean the people who have inspired this website - a group of friends from forms 1.3 and 1.4. You see at Edenham they put forms together, and 1.3 and 1.4 were joined for most lessons. Occasionally, we'd join with the rest of the "lower" half of the year, so that four forms would join together - usually for lessons like PE - and we saw the other half of the school at assembly. Years later we got to know more people from the whole of the school when the classes were made up according to ability. But basically, in the early days, our two forms spent most of their time in the same lessons - so we became good friends.

Our group was pretty large - the core members were:

Debbie Benson, Maggie Blake, Eric Burgess, Simon Copsey, Jessica Davis, Stephanie Dow, Peter Frost, Nicola Gardner, Emma Greenaway, Debbie Hall, Michael James, Sean Jones, Nadeem Qureshi, Claire Reveley, David Thaddeus, Philip Townsend, Jane Vosper.

We were a happy group - there didn't seem to be too much bitching and fighting going on. We did all the usual stuff teenagers back then did - went to parties, had our first kisses, wore ra-ra skirts and Farrahs, fell in love (or what we thought was love!), got drunk, danced to Adam and the Ants...

Those were the days!

Well they were a long time ago - but just before you check out what we look like today, spend a few more moments reminiscing over the photos below.

This is a party at Stephie's house. I can't remember exactly, but I think we are something like 12 or 13 at the time.

  • Back row - Sean, David, Simon Lloyd

  • Middle row - Eric, Nicola, Mike, Jane, Peter

  • Front rows - Jessica, Emma, Debbie H

This is a disco at the school. We thought we were sooo grown up!

The school history trip was to the battlefields of France and Belgium.  We were in the fourth year and we went with the fifth year.

I don't know who all the fifth years are - but you can see Claire, Jane and Jess here (Sean came too but doesn't seem to be in the photo). The person slightly hidden at the back right is Mr. Kitchener.

I've got a feeling that this was our last day at school - if not, it was definitely during the last week before we took our O' levels. We used to hang around in the park (Parkfields) on the way home.

From left - Claire, Peter, Jess, Sean, Jane, David, (someone hiding - either Simon or Eric, I think) Debbie B, Debbie H, Nads, Michael.

This is a photo of the whole year - taken in our fifth year.  It's a bit small - but you can just about make people out.  Not that I can remember all the names!
