January 18th 2002 - The Thai Elephant, Coney Hall

We met for a meal at the Thai Elephant in Coney Hall, and went back to Sean Jones's afterwards.

I've added the photos from this night about six months after it happened, and seeing as I was a little bit worse for wear on the night, I've left the commentary (somewhat edited!) in Nads' capable hands...this is the email he sent us all afterwards. Some of the jokes are only understandable if you were there - and some I still don't understand!

Thanks Sean for arranging a good night out. Sorry that Mike blew your cover story. Andrea is never going to believe that Tibetan Yak Racers can't hold their drink.

Claire has landed on her feet now with Paul. Lucky woman. How many men would pick up their drunk wives from a fire-fighter's house at 3am without complaint?
Er hi Danny! How are you doing?

Danny's got other motives if his jokes and e-mails are anything to go by. Poor Debbie may not have got to sleep at all on Friday night. If sex=babies (Jess - you've opened my eyes) then given Danny's mind they should have enough little ones not only for a football team but for the 50,000 supporters too! All I can say is that Danny should be pleased that Ken gave Niki a lift home, after hearing what she got up to at parties! (Story still to be confirmed by Jess so please don't sue Niki.)

The Thai Elephant was fun (not had elephant before).  We had a big dish in the middle. Claire and Jane managed to have a dish between them - you know - 'one on the side' if you know what I mean. I fear that Niki was quite jealous. She was trying to play footsie all night with a certain Ken but I was in the way and didn't have the heart to tell her. I don't feel guilty because with the heels and points on her F*** Me Boots you would need to be a masochist to enjoy it and Pete wasn't even there. (Next time take the boots off please Niki.)

That Ken is a sharp one! By the end of the night he had managed to get almost every girl's mobile number (under the pretence of sending mobile phone pictures) and had Jane trying to put lipstick on him 'the unorthodox way'. There are pictures to prove this so don't even try to deny it Jane!

Speaking of which...
I muzzzt appologizze, hic, er sozz, hic er saaay I is reaaaally soorie hic for all that hic lauughingzz 'bout yourz storie an' all hic. (I'm afraid that only Steph, Sean, Ken and myself may have any recollection of that conversation since we were the only members of the 'sober-club' that night. But Jane's slurred speech about the day Mike was upset about the loss of a beatle was funnier than the story itself.) Sorry Jane, we were laughing with you - honestly.

Ken may have a flash car but my old banger was the one with 3 gorgeous, squealing women in the back! But then again I was in the front - what miserable luck! It was Mike having all the fun in the back - again! Bl**dy tart that he is. He claimed to be just wanting a lift.
Hmmm... I remember the conversation in the back now...
"Mike - is that a golf club or are you just pleased to see us?"
(Don't worry guys - it really was a golf club!)

Talking about Mike - next time Steph and I need danger money! Not only did Mike manage to get the carpet - he managed to splatter Steph and me with booze too! No wonder new venues for reunions are not very forthcoming (unless hosted outside). Mike - you have a drink problem (but not the sort AA will be interested in).

I'm afraid I can't offer my house for a reunion at the moment due to little people; the house being in a bit of a mess (understatement); and the fact that Nicola thinks yak-racing is cruel.
I have a few odd ideas to suggest. Not proper reunions but...

...bowling (partners may be interested and at least 'Mr. Nikki', Paul and others wouldn't have to worry about what everyone is up to. - They could see for themselves!)
...murder mystery in a pub (not for the shy but then who is? Eh Niki). Spinning wheel is possible.
...something sporty (no - not your Porsche Ken - I mean table tennis, football, rounders
or even cricket if Steph insists. Sports centres have bars too Jane.)
...picnic at Holmbury St. Mary (Steph's navigating so just make sure there's enough food for a few days. If we invite Paul then at least we will have a nice Police officer to rescue us - again).
...trip to Brighton wearing thermals (Ken should know some good places - the yak racers should have some good thermals).
...Bob the Builder Roadshow. (If you're lying about this one too Debbie then I'm going to ring Eric and tell him your washing machine needs a good seeing to!)
...Trip to see Jess, Phil or Maggie. (Visit us before we visit you!!!)

Any thoughts?

Sorry that Em, Debs, Phil, Jess, Maggie and all the others couldn't make it this time.
Perhaps next time? You were missed! Not sorry Pete couldn't make it - he's in sunny Barbados with Kate while we are scraping ice off our windows - lucky wotzit!

It was great to see all those able to get there on Friday - especially the new arrivals, Jane and Sean. It's really amazing how every new person brings new pieces of the jigsaw about our school years. Things forgotten as well as things not many of us knew. (Apart from your secret romance Jane. Sounds like everyone knew that little secret.) Sean - I had completely forgotten about maggot racing on broken glass, down in the depths of a cold, dark, damp, cellar in a strange house, in the early hours. Oh the fun to be had those days ...!

Take care everyone.
I've finished my weekly ramble.
I thought that you were supposed to lose weight and get fresh air rambling but all I've been doing is eating chocolate and now I feel sleeeeeeeppppppppyyyyyyy.......
See you next time.
Nads x x x.

Mouse over the photos for their description.

Mike and Steph Whatever Nicola is doing down there, Nads is certainly happy about it Debbie, Mike and Steph Jane, practising with that lipstick Pucker up! Jane gets to grips with Ken (Mason - from Orchard Way) Mike's starting to spill the red - watch out Debbie and Steph Steph and Sean Half of Nicola, some Thai bloke, Nads and Claire - don't worry Claire, he's delivering the bottle, not taking it away Claire and Ken Sean, back at his house Claire, Jane and Debbie reminisce over old photos and autograph books

Next reunion
